All Jersey scenes are inspired not only by their history and character but by the beautiful surroundings. I cannot paint a Jersey scene without delving into its history and finding out more about it. You might find it interesting too.

This is the northern breakwater of what was going to be a harbour for the Royal Navy when construction started in 1847. By the time it was completed in 1855, it was realised that the bay would not be deep enough to take the new design of steam ship so work on the southern arm, on which stands Archirondel Tower, was halted. The original lighthouse at the end of the breakwater was built in 1857, used until 1950 and now stands outside the Maritime Museum. A modern, automated lighthouse took its place.

A stones throw from my home, this is my most walked place on the Island and where we often set off paddle boarding from its slipway along with many other watersporters and swimmers watched by fishermen and walkers. A hive of activity and a marvel of engineering, the massive chunks of granite soak up the sun and radiate warmth for hours after the sun has gone down.
