All Jersey scenes are inspired not only by their history and character but by the beautiful surroundings. I cannot paint a Jersey scene without delving into its history and finding out more about it. You might find it interesting too.

This small, deep anchorage, dates back to at least 1274 and has been used to both protect the Island and been a platform for attack. The pier, constructed in 1828, the bay also has Fort Leicester on one side of the bay and L’Etaquerel Fort the other.

Dramatic, steep land surrounds this beautiful bay – a picture in itself. I love the small islet in the bay growing trees. It’s called Le Cheval Guillaume and was the focus of midsummer celebrations when people would row around it for luck. The joy, fun and trust that was believed to emanate from this little islet interests me. I have yet to paddle board around it for luck but it will happen.
