All Jersey scenes are inspired not only by their history and character but by the beautiful surroundings. I cannot paint a Jersey scene without delving into its history and finding out more about it. You might find it interesting too.

Completed in 1834 to defend the Island from French invaders it contains an upper and lower battery and a guardhouse. It was reinforced during WW2 and housed a tank gun, several machine guns, a mortar and was manned by 20 soldiers. It used to be the Governors summer residence but now is a heritage holiday rental.

Scrabbling over brambles and gorse to get this photo to draw from, was well worth it. This view was taken from the high land on the east side of Greve de Lecq.
