This was instigated by Clare’s law, regarding the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme. The full title of this is ‘Never ever put me in a box”. It started as me thinking of Clare being put in a box along with others who had been murdered by a former partner, the box of a statistics category, when she was a precious, treasured individual to those who loved her. This woman is indeed in a box of dull colour when she herself is brightly coloured representing her personality, her individuality. The box is surrounded by blackness and barbed wire preventing her escape from whatever situation she finds herself in. There is a golden chink of warm light, cascading positivity and hope of escape into the top of the box and warming her when she opens the only small aperture she finds. This is her escape route. She has found it. This could be any situation that is boxing you in, making you feel trapped.
