All Jersey scenes are inspired not only by their history and character but by the beautiful surroundings. I cannot paint a Jersey scene without delving into its history and finding out more about it. You might find it interesting too.

The coastal tower at the foot of the steep rocks of Noirmont Point, built 1810-14, is called Tour de Vinde. The accompanying bunkers and gun emplacements of Batterie Lothringen on the high ground were built as part of Hitlers infamous Atlantic wall during the occupation of WW2. The construction of the large command bunker, built over 2 floors is also an observation tower was built in 1944.

The views from Noirmont are spectacular – all the way over to St. Helier and swinging right round to Portelet. I find the living history of the German occupation here fascinating. Having visited the bunkers and command centre a few times, the information brings it all to life.
